ABOUT THE ROLE
There are product people, and there are tech people. And there are people like you with the unique ability to tie it all together so things work smooth as silk. Your speciality is that you understand the drivers behind product decisions, including the underlying data, and are able to break it down into logical (not technical) chunks so engineering teams can pick them up easily to build the perfect solutions.
As you operate between Product and Engineering, you understand the needs of technical teams as well in order to help them build the right things. This allows you to identify and remove roadblocks before they become a problem, and enable teams to stay true to their commitments because you made sure they are realistic and reasonable from a product / customer perspective.
Connecting several concurrent initiatives across different products is something that you pull off with ease as multi-tasking and juggling many balls at the same time is second nature to you (and anything else would be boring if you’re honest). You want to be challenged, and you also look beyond the obvious by speaking with customers and stakeholders to gather first-hand intel. After all, you’re also responsible for sharing insights and actionable information with stakeholders like Marketing, Customer Success or Sales. In your mind, everything’s backed up by data, so you’re also able to point the organization in the right direction to build and sell better.
TEAM INTEGRATION
You report to the CEO (in his CPO role)
You align with Engineering, Customer Success as well as Sales and Marketing.
You support the Engineering teams regarding product requirements
You work closely with the Product Lead Engineers and the Principal Engineer to plan out features and map out delivery.
ROLE OBJECTIVES
You are successful if:
The product teams continuously ship what they promise, and on time
Friction in the build cycle is recognised and addressed.
Leadership has full transparency on expected deliveries and understands any issues that may impede progress on time.
Issues that come up are mitigated as much as possible.
All adjacent functions (Marketing, Customer Success etc.) are supplied with all relevant information around product feature capabilities and launch dates.
Likewise all feedback from Sales, Marketing and Customer Success are used effectively to form and shape prioritisation where appropriate.
A framework and flow of delivery is established that is appropriate for our company and setup that allows for repeatability and predictability in delivery.
Your KPIs illustrate the impact of what we build and ship.
Your data-driven insights enable key improvements of our products.
ROLE TASKS
The role focuses on, but is not limited to:
Work with the CPO on product requirements to turn them into epics presentable to the engineering teams (explain the “what” and “why”).
Fully understand (and, if necessary, research) the background of initiatives so you can explain them to the engineering teams and the whole organization.
Work with the engineering team to break down those epics into milestones, releases or increments and their prioritisation and sequencing.
Be the go-to person for all requirements for the engineering teams to guide them towards the expected results.
Support the CPO on collecting requirements and data from other stakeholders and customers
During the build phase, spot issues early and work with each team to unblock them quickly
Step in at an appropriate time when execution is veering off-track.
Support the teams with capacity planning for predictable timelines
Build and optimize a framework to support cross-functional collaboration and delivery
Own the detailed initiatives roadmap so each team and the organization has visibility on what is being prioritised and delivered
Define, collect and present KPI to illustrate impact, success and unachieved potential of initiatives
Interview customers and participate in customer calls to collect first-hand insights
